Info We are made of star stuff – Carl Sagan. – – – – – – – – – – Aristotle spoke of Aether as the region of the universe, above the terrestrial sphere, where heavenly bodies reside. The Aether collection, is the first in a series exploring this vision and its connection to the human senses. The collection encompasses twelve unique and functional everyday objects. Each vessel is uniquely labelled with a different word from Sagan’s Cosmos excerpt – my own intimate signature connecting each vessel to its larger universal whole, the Aether collection. Expressing the inherent earthen qualities of clay, the subtle variation in terracotta tones are derived by experimenting with the position of the pieces in the kiln and the clay’s iron content reacting to changes in temperature. The interior glaze is a unique mix of ash from native Australian Golden Wattle, sourced from my family’s bushland property in Northern Victoria. Each piece has been passionately hand thrown – it is my hope, the energy of their making is transferred into each object, which in turn garners a lifetime of sentiment for its owner.
